The chosen site is an Observatory in Bangalore, which was part of the Great Trigonometric Survey. The survey used the method of triangulation over large distances, to create a network of triangles and correlated with astronomical observations to calculate the third point. This became a turning point for the fields of astronomy, geodesy and cartography as the results helped produce precision maps and proved theories on the curvature of Earth.

The site holds a remarkable part in the history of science with a consolidated and comprehensive effort of many professions to mark out measurements through different geographical zones, and in constantly changing topographical conditions.
