North-east end GTS Observatory, Bengaluru

The site is an observatory used for ‘The Great Trigonometric Survey(GTS) carried out by the East India Company in the 1800s. The first attempt to successfully calculate the height of Mount Everest was made through this survey! The structure at North-east end baseline located at Hennur reflects upon its association with geographic position, design intention, use of materials, and the degree of accuracy that was followed. With the main intention to create awareness about the great trigonometric survey and its significance, this is an attempt to protect one of the rare evidence that holds the capacity to narrate major historical milestone.
