Coexistence at the Edges

The intention of the project is to create a system of open spaces in the CRZ No Development Zones along the backwater canals in urban fringes (defunct lands, vacant lands, existing wetlands and mangroves) and transform them to develop an ecological corridor along the canal while re-establishing the citizens’ relationship to the backwaters. The project outcome treats the vacant land along the edges of the backwaters and provides a series of ecological services that in turn improves the health of the canal and creates a buffer of varying width based on local conditions. This model can be expanded along the backwater islands in the entire city especially in the urban fringes, hence creating a web of ecological corridors in the city, where the denizens can co-exist.
