The Housing strategy studio based on Surat city focuses on formulating a bundle of Sub-strategies targeting all the income groups of the city. Surat being a major economic hub of Gujarat because of its establishment as a industrial town gains a lot of attraction and pulls migrant from the surrounding cities and neighbouring states of the country. This increasing population has to be catered by the housing market and insufficient supply of the same results in increasing housing shortage in the city. The demand is much higher than the supply provided by the state and the private sector and thus there is a significant gap between the same. Thus assessing the present condition creates a baseline to envisage the future and how these issues can be tackled. A framework of sub-strategies targeting all the income groups is proposed and Redevelopment and enhancement of formal sub-standard units in Surat deals with the problems related to the housing shortage in the city. Further, a capital investment plan has been proposed collectively under all the strategies for the year 2035 which is dealt keeping in mind the framed vision for the future of the city. Each stage of the studio has its own reflections and carves out a way in such a way that affordable, decent and a better way of living can be promoted for its residents.
