Corbusier's Imaginarium: A peek into his beautiful mind

The project starts with the analysis and discussion of associated terminologies involved in 'Adaptive Reuse' followed by the development of concepts based on the chosen terminology i.e. 'INSERTION'. 'Villa Shodhan', a modern, heritage site was hypothetically conceived as Le Corbusier's Museum. The objective of the proposed museum tour is to partially unravel the enigmatic complexity of Corbusier's beautiful mind. The design intended to showcase exhibits both chronologically (along a timeline) and organically (in terms of spatial levels) in order to transcend the various layers of his 'Imaginarium'. The museum harmoniously walks the user through various spatial levels such as the life and times of Corbusier, paintings and sculptures, furniture displays, his philosophy of design, his international and Indian works. Special consideration was given towards a design approach focused on the insertion typology of adaptive reuse wherein a material palette and modular structural system were developed for the intervention. This facilitated minimum alterations to the existing structure and ensuring a holistic intervention approach.
