Reviving Bela’s Market, Kutch

The market is situated in the central spine of Bela village, which connects the Bus stop to the village's Darbargadh. There were four markets in the village, from which only this market street has survived in its physical form. Market belongs to Jesaji ni Vasti and has two religious structures at its both the ends, Krishna temple on West side and Jain Derasar on East side. For the study a part of Jesaji ni Vasti’s market has been selected. Studio work focuses on understanding the place through documentation drawing using 3D scan data, which has been resulted into measured drawings, deriving the statement of significance through assessment of heritage values and its analysis, representing condition mapping and condition assessment in the drawings through identifying issues with reflection on the causes of decay and defects, developing vision and conservation approach though preparing design proposal, suggesting conservation and repair strategies to revive Bela’s market.
