Journey Through Light

Situated on an island near Venice, the cemetery is imagined as a continuous  journey highlighting the emotions faced during the pandemic through the play of light.  With no escape in the middle, the entire path has been taken underground, with the darkness reflecting the fear felt during the pandemic. The light in the passage is drawn through adjoining courtyards, which act as pause points, as pockets of relief, as a reminder of the little freedom people had with the decreasing number of cases. The cemetery acts as a light box, an experience through the site, realized by the changing amount and quality of light.
