Malleshwaram - Home to several communities, the ecological and religious context of the region is responsible for the existence of multiple communities which are dependent on a fragmented system of commons. We can see these systems adapt to the current changing scenario in the urban domain, with pressures that may even cause its erasure. The project focuses on three microcosm systems, disintegrated within the larger landscape setting of malleshwaram. Understanding the spatial features of all three precincts where communities flourish helped to analyze the characteristics of the different systems of commons. Sampige Road, conservancy lanes, and Sankey tank are three precincts that are bound by common resources and streets, although functioning as disaggregated commons. The project aims at appreciating the existing commoning practices and reinforcing them through small-scale tactile place-making solutions. The strategies for the same were proposed based on the aspirations of the primary stakeholders in each precinct.
