The Development Plan studio seeks to acquire an in-depth grasp of the statutory development plan and its framework, based on primary and secondary research. It is an introduction to the forces ad determinants that make a city and run a city. The forces of market trends, administrative decisions societal norms and most importantly personal decisions en masse make the city a chaotic, interesting and difficult subject to understand. The aim of the Development Plan is to create a framework allowing these forces to build and re build the city they please while taking care of the poor and the environment.

As part of the first exercise the development plan of Detroit was understood.
An ESA was conducted to understand the city of Ahmedabad .
From the ESA , Strengths Issues and Opportunities were analysed.
Suitability of Development and Potentiality were explored further.
New Boundaries was delineated after observing past trends.
Conceptual Zoning and Zoning were proposed to direct the degree of development in different areas.
Transport Network both private an public was designed while recognizing the adjacent zoning.
Heritage Proposals were made to incentivize conservation.
New mechanisms of solid and liquid waste disposal proposed.
Understandings, and learnings from the studio summarised.
