Mehsana is the district headquarters of the Mahesana district in Gujarat, categorized as a Class A municipality as the population is more than 1,00,000 as per the 2011 Census. Solid Waste Management is a crucial area of focus for the Municipality. The city faces significant environmental challenges associated with waste generation and insufficient waste collection, transportation, and lack of options for processing and safe disposal. The current waste management systems cannot cope with the volumes of waste generated by an expanding urban population, posing a threat to the environment and public health. The existing state of SWM in Mehsana municipality was analyzed by assessing the current system, policy reviews, benchmarking, and stakeholder consultation. Further, identified areas of improvement and case studies to achieve strategical and tactical proposals. Clearance of Garbage vulnerable points and existing dumpsites were proposed to improve the Municipality's revenue stream and process potential waste by recycling, and bio-remediation through biomining, thus, reclaiming these lands by constantly monitoring them.
