AAVAAS is a project which focusses on housing young professionals and students. The theme that arose out of the initial exercises was compartmentalisation of space - by activity as well as individual. In the design exercise, an attempt to break down this compartmentalisation was made, by reorganising the spatial components and varying the character of territorial boundaries and thresholds. The result is different levels of private and community living layered within each unit as well as within the building. This configuration of housing is then tested on a site to create affordable compact residences for young professionals.

House plans and sections were studied to understand the documentation in a better manner.
Analysing activities within the house
UNIT 1- It will house one person. It has a small kitchenette, a table, a single bed, storage space and a bathroom.
UNIT 2- It will house 2 people. It has a common kitchen, sitting space, and a balcony. Each separate space has a bed which is placed on the bathrooms to save space, and to create a physical boundary, a storage space, a foldable table to study privately and a bathroom each.
UNIT 3- This unit will house 4 people. It has a common kitchen, sitting space and a balcony. The sizes of the room vary, and the rent will vary accordingly. There are two bathrooms which will be shared by two people each
The site has various commercial buildings, educational institutions and residential buildings
The units are made as compact as possible to save space in the dense urban fabric of Mumbai. A common theme between all of them is the elimination of compartmentalisation and isolation by reorganising the spatial components and varying the character of territorial boundaries and thresholds.
There is one highrise and one lowrise. The high-rise is of G+18 floors and the low-rise is G+5 floors.
