Agravaamaa (Lady at the front)

Situated on the riverfront next to the Riverfront House  'Agravaamaa' is a community-based program that allows women from surrounding areas to come, cook, learn and earn. The place contains a selling area, classes and lecture hall, office space, grinding area, kitchen, roof cafe, and a rooftop cafe. To bind all these spaces into one and root the manifestation of the program in an architectural form, the spirit of Ahmedabad's vernacular architecture is taken into the consideration. Elements like Jaali, pillars and brackets, chhajjas, and extending floors on top reflect its 'ahmedabadi' identity. Concepts of Climate and Sustainability are at the core.
