Garud Ghar - Protecting the Protector

The study region is a narrow transect between the Northern western ghats and the Arabian sea comprising diverse units of landscape and communities that reside within it. 
The project starts by recognising, understanding and identifying the traces of remnant landscape in the region. These remnant traces are repositories of native species and are anchor points for the fauna. The vision is to recognise the importance of the older systems of landscape as a home for its keystone species and conserve its habitat to help the locals and the landscape. The project knots the older ecologies and the older memories to live in cohabitation. More often, it is found that the key stone species and associations of culture to them appear both in the origin stories and the continuing daily narratives in the lives of the people. 
The script hence looks at this idea of reciprocity and brings it forth by attempting to protect the protector. The project looks at conservation of habitats for Eagles, a species that is revered in the creation stories of the locals. The approach taken is that of restoration of ecology of the parental system and cultural associations. The strategies used are to protect the existing systems that can regenerate itself, restore the degraded ecosystems with the help of locals, construct memories through spaces that are lost, and enhance local techniques for livelihood.
Apart from this the project relooks at the common land and their relation with the locals. This project will increase the ecological value of the landscape. It will regenerate the species and resources that will support the locals for their survival and livelihood, and also bring back the pride within the locals.
