This studio will concentrate on the design aspects of existing urban transitions. The underlying background is that Indian cities are quickly developing in population and hence physically expanding. Growing urban populations and rising urban incomes will drive demand for greater and more built-floor area in cities, as well as infrastructure. Many of these cities' metropolitan areas are experiencing unsustainable levels of stress on infrastructure, resources, and public services, and are becoming more unlivable.The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoUHA) has launched many programs to address these problems, including AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation), SMART CITIES MISSION, and HRIDAY (Heritage City Development and Augmentation). Through procedures such as Local Area Plans (LAP) and Town Planning plans, these programs enable planning for building infrastructure in brownfield areas (TPS).
