In this studio we learned and explored various braiding techniques. One of these techniques is Ply-Split braiding, which we had studied extensively. For this semester, we were asked to create an object out of braids which served the main function of lighting. For me, I perceive lighting not only as something purely functional, where its only purpose is to illuminate an environment, but instead as an opportunity to enhance the aesthetic value of the setting it is placed in. With these ideologies in mind, I had designed 'A Starry Light'. 

From cotton fibers to yarns to cords, the step by step process cotton undergoes before turning into the cords we used.
Each of the strands are colour coded to make following the process easier.
Ply-Split braiding first appeared in 1976, and was used to make camel belts.
Our first attempt at taking our 2D learning and applying it to a 3D assemblage.
All the images used in the collage are a representation of my interests and wants.
