Most streets are designed for vehicles and such is the case for Manekchowk Road in Ahmedabad's bustling old city. The character of this street is defined by the vendor-pedestrian interaction, currently overshadowed by bottlenecks and traffic congestion. This design attempts to highlight such interactions by reclaiming the space from vehicles. It envisages a completely pedestrianised street to enhance social interaction, create a safe, vehicle-free zone and retain the character of the street.
