The concept of silence stems from the site impression. Sitting right next to the Gandhi Ashram, and having the Sabarmati flow next to it, the site offers opportunities to create quiet and calm spaces. This led to co-relating light and silence and how well-lit spaces enhance silence. The initial sketches show how the light quality in the spaces started taking shape through sectional explorations. The act of going down is an ode to the river. These sunken spaces also provide an opportunity to create silent niches.
