El Enlace, translating to 'a link', is an adaptive re-use project which aims to establish an F&B space within a 19th century heritage house in Fontainhas, Panjim. The primary concept for the project, ‘LINKAGE’ was derived from the multitude of pedestrian bridges linking the old city to the new city of Panjim. The existing visible external elevations of the site remain unaltered since the residence belongs to the heritage conservation zone in Fontainhas. To implement the concept into the site, it was decided that each typology from the program (casual dine, bar, fine dine) would be placed at different levels within the existing shell to create various forms of visual and physical linkages. The main staircase that runs across all levels serves as the link between the typologies. Three new levels were added within the shell and modifications were made to the roof such that the additions are emphasized, while still retaining certain strong elements of the site and its context.
