The visitor’s centre in Chittorgarh is designed from the interpretation of the architectural attitudes of Peter Rich, and beyond. The focus of the project was to create an atmosphere that allows the interaction between the local communities and the large number of tourists that visit the fort. It is sited to take advantage of the site conditions, like the shade of the banyan tree and panoramic views of the city below. The building is interpreted as a metaphor of a gateway, developing on the narrative of crossing the seven pols of heaven to the fort. However, it extends beyond the site’s historic significance to suit the present by encouraging social interaction around and within the building and makes it inhabitable for the purpose of beyond its function.
