A frenzy of odours, colors and conversations consolidates into the market of vendors, that is Mandali. Situated in Mandu, Madhya Pradesh this space reciprocates the play of light, shadow and volumes to define spaces as is seen in its neighboring historical architecture. As the visitors enter the market from the Northern side, they are welcomed into the cool shadow of the structure that falls onto the entrance lobby. The market is made up of two square sections connected by an entrance gazebo of sorts. One enters the gazebo with the roof at human scale and then moves into the main market space where the volume increases drastically signifying the kind of activity that takes place. The junction of the roof and the walls are raised to let in light making the roof seem lighter and appear to be floating.
