International Seminar Hall, an inquiry into duality

The project aims to analyse Uttam Jain's work and situate it in the discourse around modernism, particularly in India, by studying the relevant influences. The project focuses on the International Seminar Hall built in 1994, one of his latest projects that tends to deviate from his earlier design choices and establishes a new benchmark for functionally sound design responsive to regional conditions. The strength of the project lies in the formal analysis of the building through construction and structural process. The building is further juxtaposed with his early and later works in Rajasthan for a brief understanding of his inclinations.
