The compost park and urban forest in Ahmedabad's old city is a pilot initiative. It is strategically placed in the only substantial green space in this area. The project tackles the issue of inefficient green cover and the city's growing waste problem. It aims to combine the already existing garden park waste being dumped at the site and kitchen waste from surrounding residential areas with to create compost. The park provides an opportunity to grow trees alongside the existing heritage landscape that facilitates carbon sequestration. Other than environmental initiatives, the park has recreational activities like a café that has a view of the Sidi Saiyyed jaali, a library nestled in the woods, and a shop that faces the main road. At an urban level, the park responds to the street by providing shaded seating and a deck that hovers out towards Palika bazaar, providing an unobstructed view of the Sidi Saiyyed jaali without the traffic disturbance. This project seeks to promote waste segregation and composting among the community by immersing them in activities centered around it. The compost park and urban forest together form a threshold that awakens our responsibility and concern for the environment and city.
