Seelampur, a neighborhood in the eastern part of Delhi, has been facing neglect for several years, despite being a densely populated area with a thriving informal economy. The Shastri Park district centre proposed in the 1962 Master Plan for Delhi was aimed at providing a range of financial services, retail, office, entertainment, IT/ITES, hospitality, shared, and related uses to boost commerce and economy catering to a population of about 5 Lakhs. However, the proposal was not executed, leaving the allocated land lying vacant for years. As a result, the potential benefits for the neighboring communities and the city were lost. The project aims to help activate the district centre and propose uses that would improve the quality of life for the residents of Seelampur. Also to reimagine the public realm and connectivity, humanizing the massive transit corridor running along the district centre and the neighborhood. The objectives include enhancing the connectivity and accessibility of the district centre by establishing seamless pedestrian connections between the district centre and the nearest metro station and creating more cross-connections to link the old and new Seelampur. The studio envisions a vibrant urban hub that would offer economic opportunities, services, green spaces, and recreational opportunities, transforming Seelampur into a model for sustainable urban redevelopment in Delhi.
