Rethinking Student Dining Facility

By critiquing the iconic IIMA campus thru a systematic inquiry into the conditions and consequences of its design, the studio first understands the problems of the existing design and then propose subtle yet profound intervention/s that will resolve the problems identified in an attempt to forge new relationships with the neighborhood that surrounds it, as opposed to the urban island that the campus currently is. The studio provides an opportunity to work at a scale that is not about buildings, yet intimate enough that investigations of activity, assemblage, and their relationships are possible. Shifting the emphasis from design solutions derived primarily from the experience of space and form to solving problems, we rekindle the potential of the program, the meaning of use, and continuity of the built environment as an understanding of what constitutes critical architecture in service of responsibility for mere reputation.
