Keshavnagar, where people are rooted to their cultures and traditions even in presence of some social and caste differences, is a chawl settlement along the Sabarmati River near the Torrent Power plant. Unlike other informal settlements here the Religious and Public activities are not compromised. People here work hard for their living and also spend time with others. So the public spaces becomes a major spot for the community life of such a settlement. The project aims at developing the public spaces of Keshavnagar in turn creating opportunities for people mainly women and children to develop their skills and socialise. The Project starts in two phases one that includes comfortable water collection, Women guidance centre and a Gruh-Udhyog centre. Next phase includes a space around the temple for all religious, plaing, reading and occasional activities for the people of all age groups. The current activities of the people in these public spaces remain unhindered in addition they get a comfortable space for all their activities.
