NAAM- The Story of Us

The Vannar community is one of the oldest and the last remaining Dhobi community in Fort Kochi, Kerala. They have survived the ravages of time for over 300 years, but the sad plight is that they are a disappearing occupation under the relentless onslaught of time, and they might be gone for good in the next few decades. The educated next generation has moved on from the business, even preferring unemployment over dirty laundry. The Dropbox proposal intends to bridge the gap between the younger generation and Dhobikhana through a place which reflects the heritage and proud history of the Dhobi simultaneously, an alternate source of income and employment to the younger generation tapping the potentials of the context.
