The Calcutta setting is the connecting thread in the three modules of this semester. Calcutta is a palimpsest with sensorial events at different points in time. Collectively, the three modules project the contemporary image of Calcutta by critically placing the events that led to this outcome. The projects scale from domestic to neighbourhood level, aiming to place the fractals that constitute the whole city. The perceptional and inherent separation surface on the city’s fabric based on caste, class, occupation, gender and language with at least two of them explored in each module.
