Vulnerability reduction strategies for slums

Flooding is addressed by providing engineering solutions to the problem rather than management of the problem. The project deals with providing suitable mitigation measures after vulnerability assessment.  On vulnerability assessment, the relationship between indicators and factors indicate the impact on slums. Mitigation measures either structural or non-structural reduces the flood vulnerability thereby reducing impact. Slums which encroach on water bodies, or which are in low-lying areas need different approach of mitigating the hazard.
