Rapid growth of one section of the society has led to a very apparent disparity. This disparity is between different sections of the society as well as between people and the flora and fauna. The ambition for our cities to become global cities has led the state to follow an economic oriented path rather than a welfare oriented path. There seems to be a strong need to put up a ‘modern’ image of the city to pursue this economic path that we have taken. This comes at the cost of the flora and fauna of the area as well as at the quality of living for many. The desirable future for the city is to have strong relationships between various stakeholders and programmes, which would in turn help in having an equitable future.
