Modular shelving system for residential space. Meant for a growing family that moves a lot between rented houses. So it’s flexible to fit into any space and function. The entire system has been restructured to eradicate the ladder like visual to avoid provoking children to climb. Devising a way which ensures light travels through to the bottom most shelf.
Design revolves around > Structure > Joineries > Components. It’s a modular free standing shelving system which provides flexibility with height.Therefore younger users can also make use of the shelves.
Activity Mapping
Aim: Identify and analyse various
spaces in a modern residence.Look
for areas that can be improved
with design.
Exercise: Sketch the residence and
map activities that are carried out
during the course of the day.
Personal understandings:
Furniture has different functions
depending on the user group at
different times of the day. And
usually they aren’t used for the
function they were made for.

Case Study
Aim: Observe and document
activities, behavior patterns and
timing around collections. What
are the things people collect? How
often do they collect? Sourcing and
cataloging.
Exercise: Photograph and overlay
with sketch the important details
and actions.
Personal understandings: Children
have their own knook and corners
they use according to their action.
Making a miniature model
Aim: Detail the iconic piece
and understand materiality,
manufacturing processes.
Exercise: Make the miniature
model (1:5 scale) mimicking the
actual material and finishes as
close to the original as possible.
Personal understandings:
Production of sheld on an
industrial level. Vendors with
good skillset are known to other
vendors with the same skillset.
Expenditure management.

children’s ergonomics.
