The nerve center of the city is consolidated in an axis formed by Bhadra Fort, its entry gate Teen Darwaja and the bazaar street that connected the Jami mosque.
On the other side of it lies the busy congested street of Raikhad, superimposed by various colonial style influenced institutions.
The site is surrounded by a varied mix use typology with an opportunity to interact with the edges of main street of commercial activities and on sides with the institutions that will encourage more public activities.
The project revitalize the old core with a vision to activate the heritage of cultural drama in the neighborhood and respond to city at large.
The idea is to connect with the different age group and provide a large plaza for cultural activities engaging the community.
The response is to raise vertical in the low dense urban grain and to connect with larger vistas of the city. The functions associated is the main revival of drama theatre, black-box theatre, school of drama and workshops. The other ancillary functions are cafeteria, greenrooms and admin. The building is lifted on slits which encourages an opportunity for larger gathering area on ground level also hosting certain outdoor small plays adjoining with a cafeteria.
The play of levels is evident through connection of different spaces like workshop, drama schools and rehearsal rooms through a walkway that is connecting and place of chance encounters. The urban plaza with amphitheater can encourage a lot of crowd from the neighborhood and also from the city for evenings and night plays.
The intent is to redefine the spatial quality of the entrance chowks, site edges through the intervention which allows a ease movement that forms nodes of interaction and awareness about cultural significance of performing arts.
