The Interlude

The site acts as a threshold between the old and the new city of Mehsana. It sits close to the main railway station.  Urbanization has made the city fabric a densely populated area which creates a lack of open public spaces. These open spaces act as breathing pockets for the people and gives a break from a chaotic life. People tend to find their own pockets by indulging in different activities. Spaces like food streets, benches beside the road, vendors, stalls, parks, space under a tree, or patterns on pavements provide an opportunity for people to engage at various scales from individual to collective. 
The public plaza is imagined to be the core space that acts as a breathing pocket for the city and the programs are envisioned as an extension to the plaza. The project creates spaces that allow people to indulge in different activities and provides an opportunity for chance encounters and public interaction. It becomes an integrated part of the neighborhood that provides a break from the chaotic life and create their own pockets.
