In the recent years, India's "Gateway to the South" - Chennai, has faced severe reverse migration, particularly from its metropolitan agglomeration. How do livelihood choices and trade-offs influence the social resilience of households in Chennai? On the other hand, Guindy, the city's dense urban hub today, developed from a peri-urban industrial nucleus and is currently transforming into a real estate hotspot. Triggered by externalities, the mixed-use transit node’s changing urban fabric and quintessential character have a powerful influence on the socio-economic and livelihood capacity of its residents. What are the implications of this growth for Guindy’s lesser privileged residents?
