Majorly residential, Majiwada originally consisted of two fishing villages- Majiwada and Rabodi. But due to the rapid urbanisation of Thane in the last two decades, Majiwada has been transformed into a homogenous urban fabric exhibiting contrasting grain sizes, building heights, built typologies, street characters and public realm. These contrasts are the direct results of the co-existing- urban developments and, the Gaothan/Koliwada of Majiwada. This analysis attempts to comprehend the individualities and interdependencies of these contrasts in Majiwada at the micro-level. Similarly, at a macro-level, it also studies the interdependencies between the cities of Thane and Mumbai.
