This is a detailed study intended to apprehend the inter-relation between the urban and social conditions through spatial analysis of an urban area of 1 sq. km in New Town (Kolkata), West Bengal to provide an in-depth analysis of the different determinants influencing the spatial, socio-economic and infrastructural development of a planned smart city. Different aspects of the urban parameters are analyzed to understand the past, present and future challenges like the built forms, road infrastructures, street network, density in population, the availability of different smart planning techniques which shows that the precinct in the new emerging society is giving rise to new dimensions of social changes coupled with initiatives in street networks, built spaces, management and infrastructures.
