Passive comfort lab is a comprehensive course with the objective to study basic principles of heat transfer and building physics. The course incorporates an understanding of basic concepts followed by hands-on experiments on the course project – design and fabrication of a 1m3 volume with which an analogy can be drawn with the building envelope parameters that affect thermal comfort in a building. The course also gives us a broad understanding of climate analysis, shading, ventilation, and other passive strategies with the use of software like D-view and Climate Consultant along with thermal comfort assessment and building simulations with Design Builder and Energy Plus.
