The 'Open' Theatre

The project tries to revive an existing 'open-air theatre' in the vicinity of the Kankaria lake, Ahmedabad. The current 'theatre' is rendered merely a ground for free use, lacking the equipment to make it functional.  This project brings a new interpretation of its requirement as it explores the two-sided theatre, one that is specialized and one that is soft-paved and public. The program includes an experimental (black box) theatre, eatery, and commercial plazas, serenity groves, and trails on either side of the theatre. It also imagines a retractable, light canopy, in light of the climate.
