The textile mill industries in Ahmedabad sprouted in the mid 19th century and by the 20th century it had proven to be so flourishing that the city was referred to as “Manchester of East”. The entire city’s economy shifted towards the mill industry due to which there was rapid migration for job opportunities in the city. A number of transformations started occurring post the flourishing of the mill industry. Girdhar Nagar in East Ahmedabad is one such area which was heavily influenced by the mill era. The portfolio is an attempt to explore transformations caused due to the same.
