As a city of the global south, Ahmedabad is an interesting study in diversity of forms, patterns and economic classes.Rakhial developed as the backyard of Ahmedabad, the industrial appendage around which a neighbourhood of Chalis, mills and tenements flourished. The mills were the primary source of livelihood and millworkers were the primary residents . This studio is an attempt to study urban form as a function of these collective decisions and how they affect the urban form .After the growth reaches a level of saturation the location, income, other tangible and intangible factors affect the lives of the residents of Rakhial ,their choices of work, shelter and travel. This dichotomous relationship between the form and choices made by the residents is the focus of this portfolio.
