Changanassery is a small town situated to the southern border of the district of Kottayam in Kerala, traditionally famous for its role as a major collector and distributor of agricultural produce across the state. With the beginning of the year 2000, the town started showing negative growth trends which could be linked to the low phase of industrialization and the subsequent out-migration trend. The portfolio tries to examine the factors responsible for the urban shrinkage observed in the town of Changanassery and the determinants that stimulated its transition into a residential neighbourhood.
