AMARI SHERIO | Connecting community with the streets

The Sadar Bazaar locality near the Ahmedabad Cantonment (Gujarat) reflects great linguistic and socio-cultural diversity within the community. However, the neighborhood streets remain mostly deserted. There is an evident disconnect between the community and its streets due to which women, children and elderly feel unsafe to use the associated open spaces. The neighborhood streets possess a hidden potential to strengthen the community bonds. The design proposal aims to revitalize the streets through small-scale interventions which encourage a wide range of activities, creating a safe space where the community thrives.
