Espacios curados: Narrativa de Laterita

The Basilica ( 1595-1605) is home to the tomb and mortal remains of St Francis Xavier which has high religious value. Moreover, the facade is made up of granite, representing features of five styles of architecture: Roman, Ionic, Doric, Corinthian, and Composite which is one of its unique features of it. 
 After analyzing Basilica’s history, it is evident that the history is not appropriately conveyed to visitors — the plastered laterite stone wall was left exposed to give the building a false identity. This kind of action results in the next generations receiving the incorrect history. As a result, stakeholders become free to interpret history. 
The design proposal considers elements and attributes of Baroque space as identifiable elements and constructs an intervention and extension to the experience of baroque sacred space.
