The scale of urbanization in New Delhi is one of the biggest in the country. However, there are pockets of urban regions that have remained underutilized as the city keeps growing outward. While the Master Plan and Zonal Plan, like in the case of Delhi, provide an overall framework for growth, detailed micro-level planning in green and brown fields is equally important. At such a micro level, it is necessary to view planning through a variety of lenses, including those relating to land, real estate, the environment, transportation, infrastructure, cost, and recovery, while taking into account livability, sustainability, affordability, and experience through statutory and non-statutory micro-level methods of planning, such as the local area plan.
