The project investigates archival newspapers as a medium to represent the visualisation of the new Imperial capital, Delhi, from 1911 announcement of the transfer of capital to 1914 start of world war I. The site for the projects focuses on Central vista. During the time period, newspapers played a major role in communicating the ideas of political authorities to the population of India. The project is carried out by examining four notable newspapers in correlation with their political influences and geography. The newspapers are analysed based on the influence of the new capital announcement, the planning of the new capital, architectural styles, and employment of Indian craftsmen and builders. The project undertakes research on the newspapers’ representation of the new capital, reflecting the political influences on the press in representing the architectural image of the new imperial capital of India.
