The Ahmedabad metro is currently being developed in two lines. Shahpur is the first metro station on the Eastern side of the Sabarmati River on the East-West line and is an underground station. Located in the historic walled city of Ahmedabad, Shahpur has a rich history that developed over centuries, resulting in a diverse urban setting. The dense fabric of the city around the metro station site was studied by analyzing built and unbuilt spaces, building heights, building use, and accessibility. The street networks and topography studies gave an insight into the relationship of the area with the surroundings. Flora and fauna on site were observed, and perceptions of the area through the eyes of the people living there gave a better understanding of how the area has been conceived over a period of time. The lack of green cover around shahpur with such dense urban fabric leaves no space for leisure. The existing garden space and library were demolished and used by the metro authorities which took away the only green patch from the site. Rejuvenation of these green spaces along with the library and other spaces will help to develop a breather in this dense grain of Shahpur. A safe route to connect the main junctions on-site, making the metro station a connector for the northern and southern parts of Shahpur.
