Ahmedabad as a polycentric city developed over the years as a result of various factors. Bapunagar for instance developed as eastern residential neighborhood to nearby cotton textile mills of Shahpur and Saraspur. Being closer the job market it underwent rapid development in its initial years. Bapunagar is predominantly residential- about 68% with closely packed row houses and walkup apartments, there is a very little scope development. Although it no longer supports a thriving job market, the neighborhood is still a bustling commercial-residential area in the eastern city. The studio examines the factors contributing to its existence in its present state.
