Jantanagar is an urban landscape in the eastern periphery of Ahmedabad that had come into existence in 1970’s in the vicinity of the industrial estates of Vatva and Amraiwadi. The urban landscape of Jantanagar has gone through a radical and distinct evolution from the 1970’s to 2022. In 1968, three industrial estates of Vatva, Odhav and Naroda were established on the eastern side of Ahmedabad at a maximum distance of 8km from its urban core. With the development of the industries around the area, vitality in many economic and commercial activities was taking the form. This economic growth in the formal and informal sector i.e. primary (industrial), secondary (formal business) and tertiary (informal) laid the foundation for many communities to come and settle in this particular area. The local muslim residents, built a housing society named Jantanagar in 1974/75, east to the CTM mills, above CTM Ramol road starting the urban growth of the fabric.
