This study focuses on the tiny area of East Ahmedabad called "Girdharnagar-Asarwa," which is 1 km x 1 km in size and situated in the central region close to the old city and around 5 km from the city center. Early in the 1990s, Girdharnagar was a part of an industrial region, but once the mills closed, it gradually changed into a residential and commercial district. Girdharnagar underwent numerous changes, including the expansion of the informal population and unplanned housing. The health services cover Asarwa's built-up area. Street and social events take place in both neighborhoods. The area's viability is determined by land ownership and uses.
