Industrial development has been a major determinant in the urban growth of Ahmedabad. Industries have not only been facilitating economic growth but have also acted as a generator for the development of residential communities surrounding it. Nava Naroda, located in the North Eastern periphery, developed as an effect of these industrial developments as well as the transport developments that happened as a result of it. The project aims to study the city through the 1sq. km. neighbourhood in Nava Naroda. The connectivity, affordability and availability of all necessary amenities in the vicinity are the factors that led to the rapid residential developments in the area in the last two decades. The street network as well as the presence of the cul-de-sac street along the row houses form social spaces that foster a strong sense of community. It can be seen through the study how the historical determinants along with the physical elements and the spatial planning have created a bustling residential community on the periphery of Ahmedabad with all the necessary physical and social amenities, that make it a sought-after neighbourhood.
