Vejalpur : The Changing Neighborhood

The area that started as farmland in the 1980s now is transforming to a 15 minute city. The locality started with southward commercial expansion of the old city of Ahmedabad. Since then, numerous families and societies have settled here bringing in neighborhood centric development inserts like more schools and hospitals. Children and school form the life around this dense residential fabric land. The railway line running through the area has witnessed and had its own settlement transition around it with the infamous Rajiv Nagar Basti. This EWS settlement forms the backbone of the daily life of the area, contributing to household services. The new commercial corporate office and metro corridor is yet to fully absorb the life of the area. Though this change is seen as difficult, the sustenance of the basic dense residential neighborhood character of the locality shows its resilience to change.
